Cyberpoietic Systems
Systems that build systems.
We develop AI systems that create new capabilities after deployment. They defend live infrastructure, build and operate software inside live environments, and adapt remote platforms to changing operational requirements.
- cyberpoietic /ˌsaɪ.bɚ.pɔɪˈɛ.tɪk/
- adjective(of a cybernetic system) self-constructing; capable of developing and retaining new capabilities while in operation.
Operational autonomy
Adaptation happens inside the deployed system.
When conditions or requirements change, a cyberpoietic system can assess its environment, construct and validate a response, retain the new capability, and continue operating. It does not have to wait for a conventional development and redeployment cycle.
Cyberpoietic Systems / Archipelago
01 / Live capability development
Build capabilities where they operate.
Archipelago agents develop and operate software inside live execution environments.

They can inspect running systems, create and modify software—including their own runtime—and respond to requirements that were not anticipated before deployment.
Useful results become retained capabilities. Established behavior can run as deterministic software, with AI returning when interpretation or adaptation is needed.
02 / An interoperable ecosystem
Different environments. A common operating model.
Archipelago is an ecosystem of agent frameworks that speak the Archipelago API standard and follow a shared architectural approach.

Agents can work independently, share an execution environment, or coordinate across federated deployments. Each environment retains its own context and local authority.
Archipelago can operate within conventional software environments or run directly on hardware without a traditional operating system. The common API connects deployments without requiring identical internals.
03 / Platform portability
Bring the capability to the platform.
Archipelago systems are designed for portability across operating systems and execution environments.

The reference implementation is Python, with ports and other implementations in languages as diverse as Ruby, Smalltalk, and Erlang.
Archipelago systems can run on Linux, Windows, Android, BSD, QNX, and OpenVMS, as well as JVM-based environments and Oracle database. A common Archipelago API connects these implementations while allowing each to use its platform’s native capabilities.
